Theme and Call for Proposals
"Teaching Public Administration in Times of Turmoil:
|
You are invited to submit proposals for panels, papers, workshops, training and development sessions, or other presentations related to the 30th Annual Teaching Public Administration Conference. Proposals are invited from practitioners, academicians, students and others who are involved with the teaching or application of public administration. The conference committee decided to set “Teaching Public Administration in a Time of Turmoil” as the conference theme to highlight the importance of teaching and practicing public administration in our unusual times. However, papers that are not related to the conference theme are also welcome. To emphasize and reinvigorate the “teaching ” of public administration, three tracks are being contemplated: (1) [content] the actual teaching of public administration courses, including innovative techniques, e.g. simulations, cinema, fiction; (2) [process] the delivery of the courses, e.g., in-class, distance learning, blended or hybrid learning; and (3) [to whom] the target audience, e.g., types of students, diversity, age. A significant and desirable overlay to each of these tracks is the changes necessary to develop skill sets of Public Administration graduates that are required in these times of turmoil, stress, and uncertainty It is envisioned that each track will begin with a panel discussion or colloquy focusing on themes related to that track that would hopefully guide future discussions throughout the conference. Please include a brief narrative description of your proposed topic and which track would be most appropriate. You may also want to consider volunteering for one of the panel sessions as well as organizing a separate panel or session. Proposal Abstract Proposal abstracts for panels, papers, workshops, training and development sessions, or other presentations are to be submitted by email by March 20, 2007, to Dr. Robert F. Abbey, Jr Program Chair, (301) 464-3029
Dr. Toni DuPont-Morales at mxl25@psu.edu is the Conference Chair and the contact for all other matters related to the conference. The Program Committee will notify presenters by April 1, 1007 of their acceptance. This year the program committee will produce a “Proceedings” on a compact disk as well as posting the proceedings on the Teaching Public Administration website. Presenters are to send their papers in a digital file, Word or Adobe Acrobat is preferred, by May 1, 2007, to the Program Chair, Dr. Robert F. Abbey, Jr[. We strongly encourage that papers are submitted in advance for inclusion in the proceedings, rather than be distributed separately at the conference! ASPA or a university department has held the Teaching Public Administration Conference for 29 consecutive years. It is an informal conference dedicated to improving teaching methods. It involves sharing experiences with other teachers and practitioners concerning both public and nonprofit administration
